Glitch in the Trope is a collection of stills from Love or Leave, a video work that lost most of its footage while filming. Digital errors were found in the salvaged video files. Love or Leave is a work that includes myself performing tropes. It is about the absurdity of portraying these tropes as they exist all at once. Simultaneously performing the persona of the “terrorist”, the “patriot” and the “princess” creates an unavoidable error. The glitches tell me that these tropes or identities cannot exist without the other, nor can they exist all together. I demythologize the tropes by combining them into one character. In doing so, I expose the “glitch” in the trope. These lost and found stills are a visual product that speaks to these concepts.
